Colorado Crossroads Junior National Qualifier and Crossroads Select Tournament

Officials Information

Colorado Crossroads will, again, be held on two weekends.  The younger age groups play from February 27th to March 1st (Sat.-Mon), with the Clinic/Organizational meeting on Friday February 26, 2010.  Most of the older age groups play March 6th to the 8th (Sat.-Mon), with the Clinic/Organizational meeting on Friday March 5, 2010.  If you have already attended a NATIONAL level clinic being offered by the Officials Commission of USA Volleyball, you will only have to attend the Organization aspect of the meetings on February 26th and March 5th.  The meetings begin at 9 pm both Friday evenings.

Glenn Sapp will be the Head Official.  His contact information is below.

All play will be at the Colorado Convention Center.  Out of town officials will be offered free* housing at the Sheraton hotel, less than a quarter mile away (4 blocks) from the Convention Center and more important, closer to the Denver Diner.  We will endeavor to put two officials to a room (unless requests are made to the contrary) but depending upon the number of out of town official response, this might not be possible.  We have 40 rooms as our resources, until January 20, 2010 or when the rooms are full, whichever comes first.  After that date, you are on your own to find housing.  As we only have 40 rooms, those that respond first, giving the names of room mates and credit cards will be the last to have an additional person put into their rooms, trying to give some incentive to quicker response.  Room reservations are not complete until we have a credit card number for each person in the room.

FOR HOUSING THIS YEAR, you need to contact Wendy Sapp in order to reserve your room.  If there is someone you wish to room with, make sure you have a firm confirmation with all persons involved and communicate that information when making housing arrangements with Wendy.  When reserving your room, please have a credit card number ready for each person staying in a room (this is to cover incidental expenses over and above the cost of room and taxes.  Contact Wendy Sapp at (303) 584-0377 Ext 1 to sign up for your room.  No reservation is completed and accepted unless and until all credit cards are provided.

Crossroads has obtained a discounted rate ($109/night, 20 Rooms, 1st come, 1st serve) at the Marriott for those officials wishing to stay over on the days in between the two event weekends and/or for the night of the final event day (each Monday night) to help facilitate your travel.  You must reserve for these nights at the time you make your reservation with Wendy (800-503-0969, wendy@rmrvolleyball.org) or the rooms and the rates will not be guaranteed.

We are also looking into other activities such as a ski trip and golf outings (weather permitting).

The compensation for this event will be:

National Officials:                  $28.00 per match plus *free housing
Junior National Officials:         $26.00 per match plus *free housing
Regional Officials:                  $23.00 per match plus *free housing
Provisional Officials:                  $21.00 per match plus *free housing

*Free housing provided to “out of town” officials, provided you work all three days of the event.  Requests for free housing will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Requests made after January 20, 2010 or after the allotment of free rooms is filled will have a discounted rate ($109 per night), but not a free room.  These rooms may NOT be at the Sheraton if rooms are not available there – HINT – this hotel fills up FAST.  (Extra night hotel fees will be deducted from tournament pay.)

All Out of State officials who work all three days of each event will be guaranteed at least 16 matches.  Note:  in all probability you will be assigned more, but we can only guarantee 16 matches.  As in the past we will make every effort to pay you on the last day of the event.

There will be an Official’s meeting on Friday, February 26th at 9:00 p.m. for the first session and another on Friday, March 6th also at 9:00 p.m.  The meetings will be held at the Colorado Center (Room TBA). Please make every effort to make the meetings. The meetings should not take more than 1 hour if everyone is on time.  At the Official’s meeting you will receive the tournament protocol, first day assignments and be informed of what will be expected as an official at this National Qualifying event.  For those who cannot possibly attend the meetings prior to the start of each session, there will be a 7:00 a.m. meeting at the Championship Desk on Saturday, February 27th or Saturday, March 7th.  ATTENTION:  There will be a USAV “National Level” clinic offered on Friday March 6th from 6pm-9pm.  Please inform George Egan at USAV if you wish to attend and have already paid this as part of your “National” renewal.  If you want to pre-register please contact George Egan and he will collect the appropriate fee and make arrangements for attendance.  If you have not made arrangements with George prior to the event, you are still welcome to attend but the charge will be $30 at the door.

The required uniform for the events will be the standard white official’s shirt, navy blue slacks, black belt, white socks and white tennis shoes with the appropriate USAV Official’s patch.  You can no longer wear past year’s Crossroads apparel as a uniform for this event.  USAV Official’s patches (Regional and Provisional) will be available for sale at a nominal fee for those who do not have one.

If you would like to be a part of our staff, please print and fill out a reply form for officials and send it to Glenn Sapp by January 31, 2010.  The reply form can be sent via email (sappvb@aol.com), regular mail to the address below or faxed to (303) 782-5577.   PLEASE REMEMBER the cut off for housing is January 20, 2010 or whenever the housing block is filled.

Official who have attended Colorado Crossroads in the past would agree that it has a history of being well run event and the Front Range staff treats the officiating corps with respect.  This year is no exception.
