Colorado Crossroads - All-New and KindaGood!

For the first time in the history of Junior Qualifiers, Crossroads will host Opening Night Festivities the night before play begins. To make sure that the good times roll, we invited someone Kinda good, Danny Kinda, to join us. Look for more details about opening night in future issues of Crossroads Connections. Want to know more about Danny Kinda? Visit his website. Want to see the original newsletter article with the picture? See it here.

You can find all of these and so much more on the Experience Downtown Denver interactive map. The Downtown Denver Partnership has an online map that will show you your hotel, parking lots, places of worship, restaurants, retail stores, and much more.

Last Minute Reminders
1. Please be aware that NO COOLERS, NO OUTSIDE FOOD, NO PERSONAL CHAIRS and NO BALLOONS are allowed in the facility. This is a HUGE hassle every year because people insist on trying to bring coolers and food in anyway. People not cooperating with these rules will be refused admission or be ejected from the event.
2. There is NO Coaches' Meeting. Pools will be posted on the schedule page of our website about 48 hours before the start of the tournament.
3. Team check in for Crossroads will be on Friday, March 7 for Week 1 and Thursday, March 13 for Week 2. Check in times are from 3 pm to 9 pm at the Colorado Convention Center at 14th and Welton St. Enter through the 14th Street lobby (by California and 14th Street corner). Check in is in the F Atrium Lobby.
4. Be certain to bring your CORRECT printed check-in form. No hand written additions or deletions are acceptable, and there will be no printer available on-site.
5. Regular Team Check-in ends promptly at 9 pm. Late Team Check-in will be at 7:15 am on the morning of the tournament start, Saturday, March 8 for Week 1 and Friday, March 14 for Week 2 in the F Atrium Lobby.
6. Practice times are available on a FIRST COME-FIRST SERVED basis - PROVIDED we have all the courts up. You must CHECK-IN and compete all registration items BEFORE practicing. Time slots of one hour will be available from 3 pm through 6 pm on Friday, March 7 for Week 1 and Thursday, March 13 for Week 2. All teams must leave the courts promptly at 7 pm to clear the halls for the Opening Night festivities. (We have never had more teams than we have space available for at practice times, so don't worry that you won't get a practice time.)
7. Doors to the facilities will open at 7 am on the tournament play days, but NOT BEFORE that time. If you arrive early, you will have to wait outside the building until 7 am. And it could be very cold.
8. March is usually a snowy month in Colorado, and the weather is usually chilly (40s during the day and 20s at night). We could have significant snow – we often do at least one day during Crossroads. If you are from a warmer climate, be sure you bring appropriate outdoor clothing. (It may also be 60 degrees one or more days with lots of sun - that's why we love Colorado!).
Our Featured Exhibitor
There's going to be athletes, coaches, and spectators. But there is another important group of people that attend Crossroads, the exhibitors! Who will be in the booths this year? Here's a taste:

Crossroads Fun Fact
Ever wonder why we have Daylight Savings Time? It was first proposed in England in 1905 but it was not put into use there until 1916. The US didn't come around until 1918. (How long until we use the metric system?) It was originally conceived in an effort to maximize use of summer daylight but the idea of energy conservation soon took the forefront. Recently in the US, DST was lengthened by the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The federal government may choose to extend the legislation or go back to the original dates after completion of a energy consumption study.
Regardless of why it exists, DST will begin on Sunday, March 9th at 2 a.m. That is the second day of play of weekend one of Crossroads. Be sure to remember that day so you won't miss a play or officiating assignment that day!
